Residence Permit

Within one month after arrival to Turkey, all international students regardless of their status must register and obtain a residence permit. This application is done in the Department of Foreign Sections at the Directorate of Security. During your stay residence permit should be kept with you at all times as you may be asked to show a valid residence permit.
For the application, your passport, ID, photos and a letter from your hosting university stating that you are studying there, are required. Since regulations change from time to time, one should check which documents are required beforehand from the related office or web site of their host university. Currently the application fee is around 40 Euros, which has to be paid in cash. About one week after the application, the residence permit can be picked up. It is possible to prolong the residence permit up to 15 days after the expiration date for free. The procedure for prolonging is the same as above. After the 15 days expiration there will be a penalty fee.
